Educational Programs

Vanderbilt School of Medicine

The School of Medicine at Vanderbilt University is committed to the education of physicians who are firmly grounded in the basic medical sciences, will provide compassionate care to their patients based upon their evaluation and application of the latest scientific research, and will become leaders and scholars in their fields.

The medical school's major strength lies in the quality of its students and faculty. The school provides a supportive and stimulating environment where students are encouraged to pursue individualized interests in clinical medicine and research. Our graduating students traditionally gain entrance to high quality residency programs of their choice throughout the country. The faculty, which represents a variety of specialties and research programs, has a national and international reputation for excellence in the biomedical sciences and clinical care.

Vanderbilt School of Nursing

Today's complex health care system requires the availability of a critical core of nurses who are prepared for advanced and sophisticated clinical practice. These include, but are not limited to, the roles of primary care nurse practitioner, specialty care nurse practitioner, nurse midwife, clinical nurse specialist, clinic nurse leader, and health systems manager.

The capabilities of the School of Nursing were greatly expanded by the dedication in November 1998 of Patricia Champion Frist Hall, a three-story, 25,000-square-foot structure providing classroom and office space adjacent to Godchaux Hall.

Allied Health Programs

Meharry-Vanderbilt Alliance

The Alliance brings together the strengths of these two great institutions to learn from each other for the benefit of student education, patient care, and research progress. Their missions are virtually the same. Education and research leading to the best patient care.
